Before, During, And After Your Laminate Installation

By knowing what to expect when it comes time for your laminate installation, you can ensure that the process is as seamless as possible.

Laminate installation is an efficient process that offers multiple installation methods to best fit your household needs and project. When you go with a professional installation team, it helps to guarantee that the job is done correctly and that your flooring will look great for years to come.

Professional installers can help you determine which laminate installation method is best for your home. Many of today's laminate planks use locking systems that click together and can often be installed over existing flooring, while other products are glue-down varieties. Your installers will have more expertise when laminate planks need to be cut to size for trickier floorplans and dimensions.

A professional laminate installation crew will also be able to handle flooring transitions better than the layperson.

Before and During Your Installation:

Make sure furniture has been removed from the room(s) in question.
Have a plan for your existing flooring if it needs to be removed. Who is tearing it up and disposing of the waste? If you're removing it yourself, do so at least 24 hours in advance and bring in your new laminate to acclimate for at least 48 hours ahead of installation.
Consider trim as well. Will it need to be painted, removed, etc.?
Does your subflooring need to be removed or repaired? If so, discuss this with your crew ahead of time.
Make sure you have a plan for doors. When laminate is installed as a floating floor especially, doors may not swing open and closed as easily.
Have a clean-up plan!
Be prepared to be at home on installation day and ensure that no children will be present.
We recommend doing a walk-through with your installation professional on the day of to ensure that the plan is clear and all questions have been answered.

After Your Installation:

Odors may be present post-installation. So you'll want to make sure you have a ventilation plan in place.
Wait at least 24 hours before walking on the new floors to make sure the laminate planks are dry and set.
Wait 48 hours before bringing furniture back in and allowing pets on the new floor.
Put felt furniture pads under the legs of all heavy furniture items.
